Camana Bay has been home to the Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants (CIIPA), the country’s regulator of public accountants, for the last two years. Being based in the Town Centre offers the organisation a central location for any of its 1,000-plus members to pay a visit and the opportunity to be close by many of the financial offices also based in Camana Bay.

Led by Chief Executive Officer Sheree Ebanks, CIIPA’s team of three handles the day-to-day administration of the Institute’s 1,250-square-foot office space that features a meeting room, workspaces and a convenient ground-floor entrance across the road from PwC’s new home at 18 Forum Lane. Sheree is supported by the work of Shawn Seymour, Operations and Regulatory Manager, and Tallyn McTaggart, Member and Events Liaison Officer.

The organisation was founded in 1970 by a handful of pioneers in the financial services industry with the goal of ensuring a high bar of professionalism in the accounting industry. As a full member of the International Federation of Accountants, CIIPA has evolved into one of the leading professional bodies in the Cayman Islands, with a membership base exceeding 1,000 professionals. In April, CIIPA changed its name from the Cayman Islands.

Society of Professional Accountants (CISPA). The move from ‘society’ to ‘institute’ was intended to reinforce the organisation’s educational and regulatory role in the industry, and align more closely with similar organisations in other jurisdictions.

It was important for the organisation to find the ideal location for its operations, particularly given this recent shift. Sheree says, “We chose Camana Bay as the hub for our work because so many of our members are based here, from EY to PwC to many of the smaller financial companies. We also wanted the opportunity to host events for our members and the variety of venues within Camana Bay allows us to do this easily.”
