Spotlight On: Aureum Re

Aureum Re is the latest reinsurance company to call Camana Bay home. Located on the third floor of 94 Solaris Avenue, the company is the fourth Class D insurer of its kind to be licensed by the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority. The company focuses on the reinsurance of fixed annuities and supplemental contracts issued by U.S. domiciled insurance companies.

Named after the Latin derivative for gold, Aureum Re says it prides itself on adopting the highest business standards. As a result, they say this quest for excellence led the team to domicile in the Cayman Islands and set up their business in Camana Bay.

The growth in the reinsurance market on Grand Cayman has been attributed by the Cayman Islands government to Moody’s Investment credit rating of Aa3 and the British Overseas Territory’s expanding economy.

After deciding to do business on Grand Cayman, CEO David Towriss went on a hunt for the perfect office space and was immediately impressed with Camana Bay.

“Camana Bay was the last place our real estate agent showed us [and] the quality difference was immediate,” said Towriss.

In September 2017, the company moved into an airy light-filled office featuring local art and scenic views over the Camana Bay harbour and the Crescent. Mr. Towriss says these views play an important role in the company’s business development.

“When we have clients visit, they appreciate the views from our office space. Most people are aware of Cayman, but when you have people who were not familiar with the territory come and visit Camana Bay it blows them away. They see the substance that’s here and the image it portrays,” says Kristian Leese, the Vice President of Finance, Operations and Business Development.
