President’s Update: May 2018

Esterley Tibbetts Highway

Completion! We’re excited to see two major infrastructure projects – the Esterley Tibbetts Highway expansion and the construction of the West Bay Road Underpass – nearing completion. The civil engineering team at DECCO has been working hard to complete both developments by this summer.

KAABOO Cayman announced its lineup of music and comedy acts for the 2019 festival; I thought I’d share with you my own personal experience from KAABOO Del Mar last year and why I am – and you should be too! – looking forward to a memorable weekend of performances by amazing local and international talent.

West Bay Road Underpass “Roof” in Place

A series of overnight road closures were carried out on West Bay Road in the last six months to facilitate the ongoing works of the West Bay Road Underpass. We’re delighted to report the last of the support beams has been installed, forming the “roof” of the underpass. Recently, the temporary footpath that traversed along the west interior wall has been removed, marking the beginning of a new phase: the construction of Jersey barriers that will safeguard pedestrians in the long-term. Watch this space for the unveiling of artistic murals which will soon be installed.

Esterley Tibbetts Highway Expansion Nearing End

If you’ve driven along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway this month, you may have noticed the significant headway made on the southern end of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway, between the Camana Bay South and Butterfield Bank roundabouts.

This week (weather dependent), the National Roads Authority will open a further section of the southbound lanes, shifting traffic travelling both directions to the newly paved road in order to continue construction of the northbound lanes.

Nexus Way Parking Changes Ahead

This month, we said goodbye to the former Camana Bay Roundabout, a long-standing icon for the Town Centre, to make way for an expanded Nexus Way parking area. Work will begin soon on temporary parking spaces in the Nexus Way lot. Following the completion of the additional parking bays, a portion of the Nexus Way parking lot will be closed as the team extend the chiller lines from the Town Centre to Cayman International School.

Last week, KAABOO announced the line-up of artists set to perform at the first ever KAABOO Cayman Islands music festival. Already the island is abuzz with anticipation of what is slated to be the largest music event ever hosted in the Cayman Islands.
