Art is not confined to buildings designed specifically for it; instead it is found in the very design of buildings. Installations presented in hotels, restaurants, parks and other public spaces, allow this art to be enjoyed by a large number of people. In Cayman, the new Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa provides yet another arena for some fortuitous and well-deserving artists to display their work. Numerous local artists are featured in the hotel, using a variety of media, from the sculptures to photography to a catboat masterpiece.
After months of anticipation, a catboat restored by West Bayer Kem Jackson is now settling into its new home at Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa. A crowd of onlookers watched as the symbol of Caymanian maritime heritage was hoisted to the ceiling of the resort lobby.
The Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa, now under construction on Seven Mile Beach, will feature an eye-catching piece of Cayman maritime history – an authentic Cayman Catboat – when completed.
